Modular installation,
Beirut, Lebanon

Beirut’s nightlife often causes disturbances for residents who live near pubs and bars, they complain of the noise made by people who hang outside of these places. Whispers is a tile concept that allows building outdoor installations for people who occupy the side walks at night.

The installation lights up dark spaces and makes people conscious of their noise level, while stimulating social interaction. The module adapts to various shapes and helps reducing the sound through its curved shape, and the material propriety. The module is made up of two pieces: the first constitutes the shape while the second is the junction piece, it includes a solar panel, a microphone and a micro-controller that allows the light to react to the ambient sound. When the sound increases, the light becomes stronger until it becomes too loud, the light switches off.
